Miranda Watkins

Honey Collection

Miranda’s last collection, Honey, marks the culmination of her prolific output. In her final months, Miranda designated this group of vases and bowls, designed in 2016, for posthumous manufacture to commemorate her life and work.

The vases and bowls are in two styles, each in two sizes, all made of hand-spun aluminium. Their glistening, brushed-aluminium interior contrasts with their deliciously glossy, brilliant white exterior. And the pieces’ billowing white contours generate a subtle play of light and shade that contrasts with their bold, sculptural forms. The collection is also hard-wearing and easy to clean.

Honey, represents an evolution of Miranda’s tableware, although it’s shapelier, more rounded. There’s a practical advantage to this: as with Miranda’s pewter Flare vase and Martini cocktail shaker, Honey is comfortable to hold and lift. When designing it, Miranda factored in ergonomics as well as aesthetics, as always.

‘There’s a softness and friendly familiarity to Honey,’ she jotted down in some personal notes. ‘It’s a set of gleaming vases and bowls, a pleasing group of objects. Why the name? It’s because their designs represent a stylised honeypot or a section of one, all with gentle, voluptuous curves. I hope that Honey will bring everyday pleasure with a posy of fresh flowers or as a sculptural form to make people smile. Honey is something to remember me by.’

The collection has also been created to raise funds for the charity Sarcoma UK, for its research into treatments for rare and difficult cancers.
